When President Trump travels to San Diego this week to talk about his absurd border wall, I hope he takes the time to visit and speak with the hardworking immigrants of our state.

I hope he meets with the small business owner who is the foundation of her community. I hope he talks with the single parent who came to this country in search of a better life for her children. I hope he listens to the aspirations of our young students who still believe in the greatness of the American Dream.

In response to this stunt, I want my message to be clear to Attorney General Sessions: your threats will not change who we are. They will not deter our mission. They will not shake our beliefs.

“We believe that San Franciscans and communities across the country deserve a better internet, with more choice and competition in the market than exists today.

“We both have been strong advocates for municipal fiber because we know that many consumers feel inadequately served by their private provider, if they are even served at all. This country has a history of allowing communities to take local control of important utilities such as water, electricity and sewer services – the internet should be no different.”

Mayor Mark Farrell and Health Director Barbara Garcia today announced the opening of the San Francisco Healing Center, a major expansion of services for residents experiencing serious mental illness in the city.

“The mental health problems on our streets are one of the biggest issues facing San Francisco,” said Mayor Farrell. “By more than doubling our conservatorship beds through our San Francisco Healing Center, we can provide real results for those with severe mental illness, along with our residents and businesses”

Mayor Mark Farrell, Supervisor Jane Kim, the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure (OCII) Executive Director Nadia Sesay joined public and private partners today to break ground on a new 100 percent affordable housing development at 1150 Third Street in Mission Bay.

During the ceremony Mayor Farrell dedicated the site to former Mayor Edwin Lee, and proclaimed that upon completion, the building will be named after him.

Mayor Mark Farrell, Assemblymember Phil Ting and Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer today announced funding efforts to provide universal legal representation for all detained immigrants facing deportation in Northern California.

I believe that our San Francisco Police Department must have a policy that provides our officers with Conducted Electrical Device (CEDS), commonly known as Tasers. 

The deployment of CEDs was one of the 272 reforms recommended by the United States Department of Justice. We have yet to see sufficient progress in the efforts to create a policy that will provide our officers with this less-lethal option.

Mayor Mark Farrell and Supervisor Jane Kim today introduced the Central SoMa Plan, a legislative package that will create 40,000 jobs and add 7,000 new housing units to the neighborhood south of Market Street.
