Mayor London Breed and Health Department Launch New Program to Fight Overdoses and Deaths

San Francisco, CA — Mayor London N. Breed and the Department of Public Health (DPH) today announced a new overdose prevention program for single room occupancy hotels (SROs), to be carried out by DPH in partnership with the Harm Reduction Coalition and the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing. The innovative program is in response to the rising number of overdose deaths in San Francisco, approximately 30 percent of which occur at SROs.

Mayor London Breed Announces the Acquisition and Preservation of First Small Sites Building in the Sunset

Breed, Supervisor Gordon Mar, and community leaders today celebrated the acquisition and preservation of 3544 Taraval Street, a building with six two-bedroom homes in the Outer Sunset neighborhood. It is the first Small Sites Program (SSP) acquisition in District 4, and one of only three SSP acquisitions on the Westside of San Francisco.

Battle for the Bay Wraps Up with Record Turnout in San Francisco, Oakland and San José

Bay Area, CA — Battle for the Bay, a competition between the mayors of three Bay Area cities to protect and clean the waterfront through increased volunteerism, concluded with record numbers of volunteers, trash picked up and beautification projects completed.

The three cities turned out nearly 6,400 volunteers who picked up more than 200,000 pounds of trash in just one morning.

Mayor London Breed Announces Creation of Real-Time Bed Inventory to Improve Behavioral Health System

This inventory is part of Mayor Breed’s behavioral health reform initiative—Heal Our City—to help the approximately 4,000 homeless San Franciscans who have mental illness and substance use disorders.

Board of Supervisors Votes Unanimously to Power San Francisco's Downtown with 100 Percent Renewable Electricity

San Francisco, CA — The Board of Supervisors today voted unanimously to approve Mayor London N. Breed’s legislation to transition private commercial buildings of 50,000 square feet and larger to 100 percent renewable electricity. Almost half of San Francisco’s citywide emissions come from buildings, and half of those emissions come from the commercial sector. San Francisco has already reduced its greenhouse gas emissions 36 percent below 1990 levels.

Mayor London Breed Adds 60 New Beds to Division Circle Navigation Center

The new beds will be used to address homelessness in the area, with a particular emphasis for people at the cross-section of homelessness, mental illness, and substance use disorder. Mayor Breed and Vallejo Mayor Bob Sampayan today toured the newly expanded Navigation Center, located at 224 South Van Ness Ave.

The OMI Job Center will provide comprehensive services for jobseekers and employers in one of the most underserved neighborhoods, which is home to a large share of the City’s unemployed residents.
