Breed today announced details on her plan to address public safety in San Francisco by improving and clarifying local laws governing the use of cameras during serious public safety events and in neighborhoods facing critical public safety challenges. Mayor Breed will introduce legislation at the Board of Supervisors to enact this law, while also proposing a measure for the ballot if an agreement cannot be reached on improving San Francisco’s laws.

San Francisco Lowers Speed Limits in Targeted Business Districts Under New State Law

San Francisco, CA — This week, San Francisco began lowering speed limits to 20 mph on select corridors using new authority granted under Assembly Bill 43 (AB 43). This new legislation allows local jurisdictions to reduce speed limits in key areas. The first component of the bill went into effect on January 1, 2022, authorizing cities to lower speed limits by 5 mph in business activity districts (that is, those streets where at least half of the property uses are dining or retail).

Mayor London Breed Proposes Free Resident Admission to Conservatory of Flowers and Japanese Tea Garden

San Francisco, CA — Mayor London N. Breed today proposed legislation to make admission to the Conservatory of Flowers and Japanese Tea Garden free for San Francisco residents. The proposal, which will go before the Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee on January 26, would remove resident admission fees at both attractions, opening all three of Golden Gate Park’s specialty gardens to San Franciscans at no cost. The San Francisco Botanical Garden is already free to residents.
