Mayor London Breed Moves Forward Effort to Implement Mental Health Solution in City Hall

Breed moved forward with a process to ensure that solutions to San Francisco’s mental health crisis are tackled in City Hall, not unnecessarily at the ballot. Mayor Breed earlier today announced her initiative, UrgentCareSF, to provide help to those most in crisis in our City—the 4,000 people who are homeless and suffer from mental illness and substance use disorder.

Mayor London Breed Announces Approval of Market Street Improvements

Breed today announced final approval for the City’s Better Market Street project, enabling transformational safety and streetscape improvements along 2.2 miles of Market Street, one of the most traveled streets in the world. The final approval for the project came today, when the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Board of Directors approved the project’s proposed transportation changes.

San Francisco’s Behavioral Health System serves 30,000 people every year, but is not working for the most vulnerable people on our streets. The plan includes immediate actions and a long-term vision for a system where the people who are most in need of care receive it in a way that meets them where they are.

Breed, Supervisor Hillary Ronen, Supervisor Matt Haney, and Supervisor Rafael Mandelman today announced a plan for the 55-bed Adult Residential Facility (ARF) located in the Behavioral Health Center at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. The plan will allow for 28 beds in the facility to be used for short-term psychiatric respite while 27 beds will remain long-term care beds for current residents at the Adult Residential Facility.

Mayor London Breed Announces Launch of Trans Housing Subsidy Program

San Francisco, CA — Mayor London N. Breed today announced the launch of a new program to provide low-income transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) people with housing subsidies. Our Trans Home SF will soon begin providing housing subsidies as part of a two-year pilot program. Beginning next month, at least 55 households will receive a monthly subsidy to help pay their rent.

Mayor London Breed Announces Acquisition and Preservation of Housing and the El Rio Bar through the City's Small Sites Program

San Francisco, CA — Mayor London N. Breed today announced the acquisition and preservation of 3156-3158 Mission Street as part of the City’s Small Sites Program. The acquired properties are two mixed-use buildings with eight apartments and two commercial spaces occupied by El Rio, which is a bar and cornerstone business that has served the local Latino and LGBTQ communities since 1978. The bar and patio occupy one commercial space, and a community meeting space occupies the other.

Mayor London Breed and Board of Supervisors President Norman Yee Announce Distribution of $30 Million for Early Childhood Educators

Breed, along with Board of Supervisors President Norman Yee and the Office of Early Care and Education (OECE), today announced the distribution of $32.9 million in funding over the next three years to support early childhood educators in San Francisco. Approximately 2,500 educators who work directly with children will be eligible to apply for a stipend of approximately $4,000 per calendar year. OECE expects to issue the first stipends by the end of the year.

Board of Supervisors Unanimously Approves Legislation to Require More Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

San Francisco, CA — The Board of Supervisors today voted unanimously to approve legislation to expand the number of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in San Francisco parking facilities. Mayor London N. Breed and Supervisor Aaron Peskin introduced the legislation on July 16, 2019. Supervisors Rafael Mandelman, Ahsha Safaí, Vallie Brown, and Hillary Ronen are co-sponsors.
