Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement:

“Today, San Francisco mourns the loss of the former president of Israel Shimon Peres, who was a source of inspiration to so many around the world.

Shimon Peres was a man of immeasurable vision and a true public servant to both Israel and the world.   He devoted his life to the State of Israel, driving an agenda of progress, peace and stability.  The great contributions he made to the continued progress towards regional peace rightfully earned him the respect of so many around the world, including here in the Bay Area.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the people of Israel during this difficult time.”
