Mayor Lee & SF2024 Bid Committee’s Statements on United States Olympic Committee Decision on 2024 Games Bid City
Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement regarding the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) decision on the U.S. city to bid for and host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games:
“We are disappointed to learn that we were not chosen by the USOC to bid on the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We welcomed the opportunity to show the U.S. Olympic Committee what the Bay Area has to offer, and I want to thank the SF2024 Bid Committee and, in particular, our bid leaders, Larry Baer, Anne Cribbs and Steve Strandberg for their tireless efforts on behalf of our region. We congratulate Boston, which is a great city and would make a fantastic host. While San Francisco would have been an excellent choice, we look forward to supporting the USOC’s efforts to bring the Olympic and Paralympic Games back to the U.S. in 2024.”
Statement from Larry Baer on behalf of the SF2024 Committee and Bid Leaders Anne Cribbs and Steve Strandberg:
“On behalf of the SF 2024 committee and my fellow bid leaders Anne Cribbs and Steve Strandberg, we want to thank Mayor Lee for his leadership in our effort to bring the Olympic and Paralympic Games to the San Francisco Bay Area. While we are certainly disappointed by the outcome, we know it was a difficult decision for the USOC and we are extremely proud of our proposal that our all-volunteer team presented to the USOC over this past year. We also want to thank the USOC for the opportunity to participate in what was a very thoughtful and thorough process. Finally, we join Mayor Lee in extending our congratulations to Boston and we have no doubt they will represent the United States quite well in the next phase of the bid process.”
