Mayor Lee Highlights San Francisco Giants World Series Victory Parade & Civic Celebration Planning
City to Honor Returning Three Time World Champions with Parade on Friday at 12 p.m. from Downtown to Civic Center Plaza & with Civic Celebration in Front of City Hall
Mayor Edwin M. Lee today highlighted planning around the parade and civic celebration in honor of the 2014 World Champion San Francisco Giants to be held on Friday, October 31, 2014. The parade will begin at Market Street at Steuart Street at 12 p.m. then continue westbound on Market Street turning onto McAllister Street to proceed to City Hall and Civic Center Plaza. Following the parade, on the steps of City Hall, Mayor Lee will honor the World Series Champions in a civic celebration.
“San Francisco could not be any more proud of its hometown San Francisco Giants for their third World Series victory,” said Mayor Lee. “The Giants have shown their magic once again as this improbable group of players refuses to quit. Congratulations to every player on the roster and to the entire San Francisco Giants organization. I can’t wait to celebrate the return of our hometown heroes with a parade down Market Street and civic celebration in front of City Hall to welcome our Giants home.”
The sidewalks lining Friday’s parade up Market Street and the celebration at Civic Center Plaza are open to all members of the public. Those viewing the parade and who wish to attend the celebration in Civic Center Plaza are advised to arrive early and take public transportation to the parade and Civic Center celebration for the World Champion San Francisco Giants.
The parade route will be closed to traffic beginning at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Additionally, Mission Street between Van Ness Avenue and The Embarcadero will be closed to traffic. Road closure restrictions will remain in place until parade attendees are fully cleared from the restricted route and the roads have been cleaned by Public Works.
Because of the number of street closures throughout the City and the amount of spectators expected, Giants fans are strongly encouraged to take public transportation including MUNI, BART, Caltrain, Golden Gate Transit, SamTrans, and ferries to this event as parking and traffic will be extremely difficult. All Muni Metro trains will stop at Civic Center station, as well as at Embarcadero, Montgomery and Powell stations for the parade and Civic Center Celebration. The SFMTA will supplement existing Metro service with six additional Metro shuttles. Motorists and transit riders should allow extra time as delays or detours are expected on Muni routes and lines not listed above. For regional transit information, please visit www.511.org. For Muni information, please visit www.sfmta.com or call 311.
This will be a family focused event for baseball fans, and will be an alcohol-free event. San Francisco Police and Recreation and Park Departments will be on hand to monitor and enforce a zero tolerance policy for alcohol and other controlled substances in Civic Center Plaza, and will not tolerate misbehavior at the parade or after the civic celebration.
