Mayor Lee Announces Crystal Jade to Open in San Francisco

Internationally Acclaimed ChinaSF-Recruited Restaurant to Fill Long Vacant Embarcadero Center Four Space & Create More Than 100 Jobs; Highlights ChinaSF’s Continuing Support of Attracting New Companie

Today Mayor Edwin M. Lee and Board President David Chiu announced that Crystal Jade Culinary Concepts Holding in partnership with San Francisco restaurateur Gus Murad will be opening their first outlet outside Asia in San Francisco in early Spring 2014. ChinaSF has worked continuously to support the opening of the first United States presence. Crystal Jade signed a lease to take over 16,000 square feet of indoor and 4,000 square feet of outdoor space that has long been vacant at Boston Properties’ Four Embarcadero Center. Crystal Jade is committed to create more than 100 jobs during their first phase of operations.

“Crystal Jade’s decision to join San Francisco’s world class culinary scene affirms our City’s special relationship with Asia as the premiere gateway to the Pacific,” said Mayor Lee. “ChinaSF has shown its economic impact on our local economy, helping to develop diverse industries and create jobs for our residents and for San Francisco.”

“I’m thrilled that Crystal Jade will be bringing its delicious cuisine to the heart of our City’s Financial District, helping to ensure that San Francisco has one of the best and most diverse culinary experiences in the world,” said Board President Chiu.

The award-winning Crystal Jade is the first Singapore-based, multi-concept restaurant brand to extend its reach into the United States.  The group has restaurants in Asian countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, People’s Republic of China, Japan, Vietnam and South Korea, that serves authentic Chinese cuisine.

“Crystal Jade is looking forward to opening our flag ship restaurant in San Francisco. Compared to other US cities we have visited, San Francisco has been extremely welcoming and I especially appreciate our interactions with ChinaSF, Boston Properties and many others,” said Crystal Jade Concept Holdings Chairman and CEO Yiutung Ip. “Crystal Jade has been dedicated to bringing authentic, quality Chinese food to contemporary audiences and I look forward to doing the same for the Bay Area’s demanding food palates.”

“I am thrilled to partner with Crystal Jade and being a part of introducing a new ingenious and fresh culinary concept to San Francisco,” said Restaurateur Gus Murad.

“Crystal Jade will be an exciting new addition to our already diverse culinary experience at the Embarcadero Center,” said Boston Properties Senior Vice President of Leasing Rod Diehl. “This will be attractive to our tenants and other diners throughout San Francisco.”

ChinaSF has been actively recruiting businesses to start their North American operations in San Francisco. In the past 17 months, ChinaSF has brought in more than 10 companies from Greater China, including more than 3 technology and biotech companies – Kwinbon, GO Launcher and Joinn Labs – in the past few months.

Attracting companies from different industries and sectors from financial to cleantech to innovation and technology to restaurants and hospitality, ChinaSF’s efforts have directly created over 190 jobs for the Bay Area not counting any resulting multiplier effects and benefits.

In addition to the financial investment into the Bay Area, ChinaSF recruits have generated more than $560 million in revenues since 2008, and ChinaSF’s efforts have contributed to an additional 15 percent in revenues for San Francisco since its establishment.
