Mayor Lee's Statement on San Francisco Unified School District Superintendent Richard A. Carranza on Becoming Finalist as Houston Independent School District's Next Superintendent
Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement regarding San Francisco Unified School District Superintendent Richard A. Carranza on becoming finalist as Houston Independent School District’s next Superintendent:
“The San Francisco Unified School District has thrived under Richard’s leadership during his seven-year tenure, and it is because of his dedication to collaboration and relationship building. The City and the School District united resources, aligning efforts to improve outcomes for children, youth and families.
He laid the foundation for our strong partnership: the City, the school board, the private sector, non-profits and most importantly, parents, to create an educational pathway for a quality public education for all children from pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. From saving accounts for college, to STEM investments and opportunities, and meaningful year-round paid job opportunities to develop skills that are essential to succeeding in today’s economy, we have developed a holistic strategy towards preparing the City’s next generation workforce.
I have full confidence that Interim Superintendent Myong Leigh will continue to build upon this foundation and continue the creation of an educational pipeline that serves the needs of our City’s children. I am committed to a smooth transition and pledge my continuing support for the City and School District’s strong relationship.”
