Mayor Lee’s Statement on Governor Brown’s Drought Relief Package for California

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement regarding Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.’s legislation to immediately help communities affected by the devastating dry conditions and provide funding to increase local water supplies, with California experiencing its worst water shortage crisis in modern history:

“I applaud Governor Brown and our legislative leaders for this proactive measure and their continued support during these critically dry times. The $687 million drought relief package will provide much needed financial assistance to people and agencies affected by the drought.

San Francisco will be actively pursuing available funding opportunities to support our ‘shovel ready’ water conservation and water supply projects. This work will help stretch our storage supplies for the 2.6 million customers that depend on the Hetch Hetchy Regional Water System.”
