Mayor Lee’s Statement on Controller’s Nine-Month Budget Status Report

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement on the City Controller’s Office Fiscal Year 2013-14 Nine-Month Budget Status Report, providing the most recent overall revenue growth and expenditure savings for the fiscal year with a projected surplus of $250.7 million, an improvement of $42.9 million over the Six-Month Budget Status Report estimate:

“As the Controller’s Report confirms, our City’s economy is moving in the right direction, our economic policies are working and the fiscal discipline we have instilled in our budgeting and spending continues to pay off. Our residents are getting back to work, small businesses are thriving, housing construction is up, and we are investing in our transportation and other critical infrastructure.

But even with this good news, we must continue to face budget deficits in the years ahead. Over the next month, we will present a balanced budget to the people of San Francisco; one that will invest in our residents, rebuild our infrastructure, fund vital social services, and protect our economic recovery. ”
