Mayor Edwin M. Lee today appointed Port Deputy Director Elaine Forbes as Interim Director of the Port of San Francisco
San Francisco, CA—Mayor Edwin M. Lee today appointed Port Deputy DirectorElaine Forbes as Interim Director of the Port of San Francisco, following theresignation of longtime Director Monique Moyer. Her appointment is effectiveMarch 1st.
“Elaine’sleadership and extensive background in policy and financial management make heran outstanding choice to lead the Port during this time,” said Mayor Lee.“Elaine is a proven leader and is an invaluable member of the Port’s ExecutiveTeam, showing her commitment and dedication to the Port and our City. I amconfident she will continue to serve the Port and all of its stakeholdersduring this transition. I thank Monique Moyer for her unwavering nearly 20-yearservice to the residents of San Francisco, leaving a lasting legacy to the SanFrancisco waterfront that will continue to benefit San Franciscans forgenerations to come.”
The Port of San Francisco isresponsible for the seven and one-half miles of San Francisco waterfrontadjacent to the San Francisco Bay, which the Port develops, markets, leases,administers, manages, and maintains. Its jurisdiction stretches along thewaterfront from Hyde Street Pier on the north to India Basin on the south.
ElaineForbes is currently the Deputy Director for Finance and Administration for thePort of San Francisco and has held executive management and leadershippositions at both the Planning Department and the San Francisco InternationalAirport. In addition, she has worked in San Francisco’s Budget Analyst’s Officeand Office of the Legislative Analyst providing fiscal and policy analysis andevaluating and reporting on complex municipal issues. Elaine worked as aredevelopment agency planner for the City of Oakland and has worked for severalnon-profit land use policy and economic development organizations including theUrban Strategies Council and the California Budget Project. She holds a Mastersof Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Bachelor ofArts Degree from Mills College in Oakland.
MoniqueMoyer was appointed Port Director in 2004, and has successfully delivered manyprojects during her tenure, including the James R. Herman Cruise Terminal atPier 27, the Exploratorium, the 34th America’s Cup, and deliverednumerous parks and open spaces. She also addressed seawall vulnerability andsea level rise and made historic investments in infrastructure on Port propertyto make sure San Francisco’s waterfront serves all diverse communities,businesses and visitors.
ThePort Commission is conducting a national search for a permanent Port Director.
