Mayor Lee’s Statement on Tragic Passing of City Employee Reynaldo Morante

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement on the death of cable car operator Reynaldo Morante, who was in a coma and on life support at Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center since June 2015 after he was struck by a suspected drunken motorcyclist:

“On behalf of the City and County of San Francisco, I extend my deepest condolences to the family of Reynaldo Morante who tragically died after being struck while on duty last year.

Mr. Morante served as a Muni operator for more than 20 years and became a cable car operator in 2014. He was a dedicated City employee who dreamed of being part of San Francisco’s historic cable cars, and he served our residents and visitors with great distinction. He will be greatly missed by all.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with his family, friends and colleagues during this time of mourning and sorrow.”
