MAYOR LONDON BREED ON THE PASSAGE OF PROPOSITION C
“From my very first day in office, my priority has been to help our homeless population get the care and shelter that they need. The voters sent a clear message that they want an increase in funding to help meet this urgent challenge. I agree we need to build more housing and shelters, help those suffering from mental illness and substance use disorders, and help people to exit homelessness—and business can pay more to make that happen. I have already had conversations with both proponents and opponents of Prop C about coming together to work on this issue as one City, and we can and will do just that. That starts by getting stakeholders to sit down together to plan how we are going to deliver on the goals of Prop C, enact strong accountability measures, and address any legal uncertainties in the measure. We also must continue to work on ways to deliver funding and resources now to help those on our streets. Going forward all of us—residents, advocates, businesses, service providers, elected leaders—can work together on local, regional, and statewide solutions to help people get off the street and into housing.
Today, I am committed more than ever to leading our City forward by working with everyone to bring funding and solutions to help our homeless residents. I know we can do it together, and I will not rest or take my focus off meeting these challenges.”
