Mayor Lee’s Statement Supporting President Obama’s Nomination of Mayor Anthony Foxx as Secretary of Transportation
Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement regarding President Barack Obama’s nomination of Mayor Anthony Foxx of Charlotte, North Carolina as the next Secretary of Transportation:
“I am in full support of the President’s nomination of Mayor Foxx as the next United States Secretary of Transportation. As a mayor of a large, urban city, Mayor Foxx knows that planning, building and maintaining a world class public transportation system is critical to the financial well-being of a city, creates jobs and can help fuel regional economic recovery. Mayor Foxx is a proven leader who understands that rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure is an investment that will benefit generations.
I thank Secretary Ray LaHood for his leadership and commitment in making smart infrastructure investments in our nation’s transit. The historic investment made by our Federal funding partners in San Francisco’s modern public transportation system includes the Central Subway and the Transbay Transit Center. These projects will not only connect our City’s diverse neighborhoods and create thousands of jobs today, but they will help us realize a vision of a transit system that will serve our City’s growing population and workforce.”
