Mayor Lee & Green Bay Mayor Schmitt Make Friendly Wager On 49ers-Packers Playoff Game

Losing Mayor Will Wear Winning Team’s Cap at Local School & Will Send Winning Mayor Local Chocolates & Desserts

Mayor Edwin M. Lee and Mayor James J. Schmitt of Green Bay, Wisconsin agreed to a friendly wager on the outcome of this weekend’s 49ers-Packers NFC Wild Card Round playoff game, which takes place this Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The losing Mayor will visit a school in his hometown, wearing the cap of the winning team, to read to school children and teach them a lesson about sportsmanship.

In addition, the losing Mayor will send a care package of local chocolates and desserts to the winning city. Green Bay’s Mayor Schmitt is wagering Berstens Chocolates and kringle, the official dessert of the State of Wisconsin. Mayor Lee is wagering Ghirardelli Chocolates and donuts from Bob’s Donut Shop on Polk Street.

“History repeats itself. Last year, the Niners beat the Packers to open the regular season, and then the Niners beat the Packers to advance in the Playoffs,” said Mayor Lee. “This year, the Niners beat the Packers to open the regular season, and I have every reason to believe that, once again, Red & Gold will prevail over Green & Gold, and the Niners will beat Green Bay again to continue their Quest for Six!”

“The Packers are on a roll right now and will continue that roll over the Golden Gate Bridge and over the 49ers,” said Mayor Schmitt. “We look forward to a Packers win.”

As the Packers host the 49ers this weekend, Mayor Lee and the San Francisco 49ers join Mayor Schmitt and the Green Bay Packers in urging all fans to treat each other with respect. Both Mayor Schmitt and Mayor Lee hope and expect that fans will cheer loudly, but that supporting the home team should always be positive and peaceful. Wherever fans choose to watch the game, remember to be safe and practice good sportsmanship. In the end, the 49ers embody the value of teamwork and sportsmanship, and rivalries must remain on the field.

Mayor Lee is encouraging 49ers fans from across the Bay Area to frequent their neighborhood establishments to watch the game.

Additionally, Mayor Lee today ordered City Hall lit in Red & Gold beginning Friday, January 3, 2014 for the remainder of the 49ers playoff run.
