Mayor Lee’s Statement on Retiree Health Care Trust Fund Charter Amendment Forwarded to November 2013 Ballot

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement on the Board of Supervisors’ unanimous action to place Retiree Health Care Trust Fund Charter Amendment on the November 2013 ballot, which if approved by San Francisco voters, will address the City’s unfunded retiree health care costs:

“I applaud Supervisor Mark Farrell for his work to tackle the complicated issue of our unfunded retiree health care costs. Supervisor Farrell has stepped up to the challenge and crafted a thoughtful, responsible measure that holistically addresses this $4.4 billion shortfall. This Charter Amendment ensures that the City’s retiree health care obligations are responsibly and fully funded in 30 years. I want to thank the Board of Supervisors for forwarding this measure to San Francisco voters.”
