Mayor Lee’s Statement in the Aftermath of Mission District Three-Alarm Fire

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement in the aftermath of today’s Mission District three-alarm fire on Valencia Street that quickly spread to adjacent buildings due to strong winds:

“I am grateful that no one was injured during this afternoon’s three-alarm fire on Valencia Street. On behalf of our City, I want to express my sorrow for our residents who are affected and also relief for their safety.

I thank Chief Hayes-White and the more than 100 brave men and women of the SFFD for their leadership and determined action to successfully put out this fire and their work to prevent even more damage to homes and businesses in the area.

As SFFD continues to investigate the cause of the blaze, the City’s Human Services Agency and the Red Cross are working closely with displaced residents. I would like to encourage property owners and landlords to use the Good Samaritan temporary occupancy residential rent ordinance, to help those displaced so that they can more easily find temporary housing and begin the process of recovery.”
