Today, the administration of President Donald Trump took yet another cruel step against legal immigrants. Ending temporary protected status for Salvadorans is insulting to our American values of opportunity and prosperity for all.

Targeting temporary protection status programs—like previous efforts against Haitian, Honduran and Nicaraguan residents—will not make our country safer or stronger. Instead of dividing our country in search of political points and attacking the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and H-1B initiatives, we should pursue comprehensive immigration reform policies that will strengthen our nation’s economy and build our diversity.

In San Francisco, we will continue to defend, respect and stand together with our immigrant communities.
