UPDATE FROM MAYOR LONDON BREED ON SAN FRANCISCO’S RESPONSE TO AIR QUALITY

San Francisco air quality is now Purple (very unhealthy). Everyone, especially people with medical conditions and respiratory diseases, should avoid outdoor activities if possible.

The City is taking a number of actions as a result:

• The City is continuing efforts to help vulnerable populations. A full list of respite centers can be found at SF72.org for people to avoid the outdoor air.
• San Francisco Unified School District has cancelled school today but recreation centers across the City are open and staffed. Additionally, the de Young Museum, Asian Art Museum, and the Legion of Honor are free through the weekend.
• The San Francisco Department of Homelessness & Supportive Housing has opened an additional 75 shelter mats. Unsheltered individuals should go to 525 5th Street for shelter placement.
• The Emergency Winter Shelter Program will begin this Sunday, November 18^th. More information on the additional shelters and schedule can be found at HSH.sfgov.org/emergencyshelter.
• The Homeless Outreach Team will continue performing wellness checks, offering masks, water and transport to shelter for unsheltered people.
• The City will continue to push out alerts through our ALERT-SF texting service. Text your zip code to 888-777 to receive real-time emergency alerts. Visit AirNow.gov for air quality updates.
• The Human Services Agency is continuing to perform wellness checks on their clients, as are their non-profit community partners.
• Muni is FREE across the City today for all riders to encourage people to avoid traveling outdoors.
• City Departments are sending out multilingual public notices so all of our communities are informed.
