Mayor Lee on Support Efforts for Hurricane Harvey

“As the heartbreaking destruction from Hurricane Harvey continues to unfold, the people of San Francisco are ready to act and support the people of Houston in their time of need. San Francisco is a city painfully familiar with natural disasters, so when we witness these events take place, we feel a special obligation to help.

Today, I am calling on the entire San Francisco community—our private residents, corporate partners and philanthropic organizations—to donate to the Greater Houston Community Foundation and the Houston Independent School District Foundation. Donations can be made at www.ghcf.org and www.houstonisd.org and will help purchase clothing and school supplies for students, professional attire for school staff and miscellaneous expenses such as food vouchers and public transit passes, among other urgent response needs. A donation of any kind will be critical to helping Houston families get back on their feet following this tragedy.

This past weekend, we saw our city come together in the spirt of unity and compassion. We will continue that powerful display of compassion by helping those impacted in Houston.

During an event like this, it is important to remind our own residents to have an emergency plan in place and disaster supply kits in their home. For more information on how to be ready for the next major event, our residents can visit www.sf72.org.”
