Mayor Edwin M. Lee and Superintendent Richard Carranza announced that the U.S. Department of Education has selected San Francisco’s Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) to receive a five-year, up to $30 million Promise Neighborhoods implementation grant, among the highest amount granted of only six other selected areas in the nation.

Mayor Lee Proposes Citywide Ban on Extra-Lethal Hollow Point Ammunition & New Notifications

Today Mayor Edwin M. Lee joined by Supervisor Malia Cohen and Police Chief Greg Suhr announced proposed new laws to make it illegal for civilians in San Francisco to possess certain types of particularly dangerous hollow point ammunition, bullets specifically designed for use by law enforcement, but commercially available for legal purchase. Mayor Lee also announced a proposed ordinance to require automatic notification to police when a person in San Francisco purchases 500 rounds or more of any type of ammunition in one transaction.

Mayor Lee Issues Executive Directive to Improve Delivery of Capital Projects & Promote Efficiency

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued a Mayoral Executive Directive to require City Departments to enter into new partnerships with private sector contractors to help assure on-time and on-budget delivery of City projects. The directive focuses on the City departments with contracting authority including the Department of Public Works, Port of San Francisco, Recreation and Park Department, San Francisco International Airport, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.

San Francisco Moves Forward With Pedestrian Strategy

Today Mayor Edwin M. Lee joined the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) and San Francisco Department of Public Health to announce the draft Pedestrian Strategy is nearing completion. City officials, advocates and community groups reaffirmed their commitment to pedestrian safety during the holiday shopping season today at the Powell Street Promenade where existing pedestrian improvements have helped holiday shoppers stay safe on busy San Francisco sidewalks.

Mayor Lee Announces Salesforce.Com Signs Largest San Francisco Lease of 2012

Mayor Edwin M. Lee announced salesforce.com has leased approximately 450,000 square feet of office space in a new office tower to be built at 350 Mission Street. The largest San Francisco lease transaction of 2012 to date, the building will break ground in January 2013 with anticipated occupancy in 2015. Salesforce.com also announced a 100,000 square foot expansion at 50 Fremont Street. This comes less than a year after salesforce.com’s January 2012 announcement of a 400,000 square foot lease in the same building.
