Mayor Lee & New Orleans Mayor Landrieu Make Friendly Mayoral Wager on 49ers-Saints Playoff Game

Mayors Wager for Signature Food & Drink of San Francisco & New Orleans

1/12/12–Mayor Edwin M. Lee and New Orleans Mayor Mitchell J. Landrieu today agreed to a friendly wager on the National Football League’s NFC Playoff Game between the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints this Saturday, being played at Candlestick Park. Mayor Lee will be attending the game.
Mayors Lee and Landrieu agreed that the office of the winning team’s mayor will receive a package of signature foods and drink from the losing mayor. If the San Francisco 49ers win, Mayor Landrieu will send fresh Louisiana seafood, a Sucre King Cake and Abita beer. If the New Orleans Saints win, Mayor Lee will send San Francisco seafood including Dungeness crab from Fisherman’s Wharf, Boudin sourdough bread and Anchor Steam beer.

“Our 49ers are a source of great pride for San Francisco and the entire the Bay Area,” said Mayor Lee. “Coach Harbaugh has led a resurgence of the Red & Gold, and this team has a shot to go all the way. So while I’m excited to make this bet with Mayor Landrieu, we have no intention of sending anything to New Orleans. Go Niners!”

“The Saints are truly a source of pride for the ‘Who Dat Nation’ and we look forward to them beating the 49ers on the road to a second Super Bowl,” said Mayor Landrieu. “Like our Saints, we also pride ourselves on our cuisine, especially Louisiana seafood. But we don’t expect to be sending any to the Bay City anytime soon. We look forward to sampling Dungeness Crab and other San Francisco treats next week.”

The Mayors will meet next week at the U.S. Conference of Mayors meetings in Washington, D.C.

The playoff game between the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints at Candlestick Park Stadium kicks off on Saturday, January 14 at 1:30 p.m. PST.
