Mayor Lee’s Statement on the Passing of Commissioner Vera Haile

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement on the passing of San Francisco’s Immigrant Rights Commissioner, Vera Haile:

“San Francisco mourns the passing of Vera Haile, a lifelong advocate for San Francisco’s immigrants, seniors and low-income residents.

Commissioner Haile represented the best of our San Francisco values and was a strong and effective voice for our City’s underserved residents. She personally inspired me and was an inspiration to all who met her.

Her commitment and ties to our City were deep and she utilized her leadership skills and extensive experience to make San Francisco a better place.  In addition to serving on the Immigrant Rights Commission since its inception, she had a long and distinguished career serving those in need at Self-Help for the Elderly and at the North of Market Senior Services, while also serving on several bodies on a voluntary basis including the Aging and Adult Services Commission and my Long Term Care Coordinating Council.

San Francisco is heartbroken and will always remember Commissioner Vera Haile’s exceptional service to our City and residents. Our thoughts and prayers remain with her family and friends at this time of mourning.”
