Mayor Lee's Statement on Passing of Hadley Roff

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement on the death of former Fire Commission President Hadley R. Roff who served four San Francisco mayors including as Deputy Mayor for then Mayor Dianne Feinstein:

“On behalf of the City, I extend my deepest condolences to the family of Hadley Roff whose distinguished career both in Washington, D.C. and in San Francisco represents the best of public service.

Hadley Roff returned to San Francisco after service to several U.S. Senators in Washington, D.C. He began his career in City Hall as Press Secretary for Mayor Joseph L. Alioto, and continued to serve during the tenures of Mayors Art Agnos, Dianne Feinstein, and Frank Jordan. Hadley showed a particular commitment to public safety, dropping everything to report to the scene of a fire in our City that reached three alarms or higher, which led to his appointment to the Fire Commission.

Hadley worked as State Director for U.S. Senator Feinstein and became the Director of the San Francisco Urban Institute at San Francisco State University before retiring. He touched the lives of so many San Franciscans during his service to our neighborhoods and our City.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this time of sorrow.”
