Mayor Lee’s Statement on Golden State Warriors NBA Playoff Season
Mayor Edwin M. Lee issued the following statement on the end of the Golden State Warriors’ NBA Playoff Season after the Warriors fell to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals:
“Tonight the San Francisco Bay Area is proud of the Golden State Warriors as our home team basketball heroes finished a truly amazing season.
Thanks to the Golden State Warriors, fans have enjoyed the best season in recent history as our Warriors made it to the playoffs for just the second time in 19 years. This season was filled with memories that will stay with Warriors fans for a lifetime, including record-breaking performances by Stephen Curry who had a league-high 54 points in a single game against the Knicks, and who now holds the record for most three-pointers made in a single season.
Warriors fans across the Bay Area have stood behind the team that played for each other and gave everything they had. From the big-time rebounds of Andrew Bogut, to double-double scoring David Lee, to the exciting three-pointers by Splash Brothers Curry and Thompson, to the veteran experience of Jack and Landry, to the impressive rookie seasons of Barnes and Ezeli, this team has made history with plenty of accomplishments to be proud of and build on in seasons to come.
The Golden State Warriors have been the Bay Area’s basketball team for 50 years, and our City knows that the future holds many great things for them in the years to come. Congratulations to a remarkable Warriors team, the entire Golden State Warriors organization and the many fans in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. GO WARRIORS!”
Mayor Lee will declare May 21, 2013 as Golden State Warriors Day in San Francisco and give Stephen Curry a Key to the City for setting the all-time NBA record for three-pointers made in a regular season at a civic celebration in the Rotunda of San Francisco City Hall on Tuesday morning.
