Mayor Lee’s Statement on Bayview Shelter
Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement on Board of Supervisors approval authorizing the Human Services Agency to enter into a $978,000 forgivable loan agreement from the California Department of Housing and Community Development to renovate the leased premises at 2115 Jennings Street for use as a 100-bed homeless shelter in the Bayview:
“I am pleased that the Board of Supervisors has taken this vote to accept the nearly $1 million in State funding to allow the City to move forward with a much-needed emergency homeless shelter on Jennings Street. The benefits that this shelter will provide to our most vulnerable residents, especially in the winter months when the weather can prove fatal for those living on the streets, cannot be understated. We will commit to communicating with the public and to residents of the Bayview as we move forward on this indoor shelter that will house 1,300 homeless, unsheltered adults living in the Bayview.”
