Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement on the stabbing death this morning of a female construction worker at Fifth and Shipley streets in the South of Market neighborhood:

“On behalf of the City and County of San Francisco, I extend my deepest condolences to the family of the victim who died after being stabbed. Our thoughts and prayers remain with her family, friends and colleagues during this time of mourning and sorrow. The victim was a 2013 graduate of the CityBuild program and a proud member of Laborers’ Local 261.

San Francisco Police Department has detained two suspects thanks to the heroic assistance of co-workers who followed the suspects and called police. The horrific act is being thoroughly investigated SFPD and those responsible will be held accountable.”
